orn in Scotland, Vettriano left school
at the age of sixteen to start work in
the local coalfields. For his twenty-first birthday
his girlfriend gave him a set of watercolour
paints and from then on he devoted himself
to painting entirely. He decided to display
his works for the first time 14 years ago
in The Royal Scottish Academy where they were
received with a great enthusiasm and all sold out
during the first day of the exhibition.
From that moment on his painting matured rapidly,
and similarly quickly increased also the interest in his works
among painting collectors. His works of art have been exhibited
in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong and New York, to name but a few cities.
His paintings can be found in many public and private collections
throughout the world. Vettriano`s paintings carry within themselves
some sort of magnetism that makes us distance ourselves from reality
and get immersed in a completely timeless and limitless dimension.
It`s a dreamlike world where in a variety of sceneries- once spurred
by an old movie, once by a novel, once by our own memories- the eternal
drama of men and women takes place. The artist places us in front
of a stage full of actors that will stay inanimate unless we provide the screenplay…
